Thirty-six awards across twelve disciplines for the ninth edition

The ninth edition will be contested across 36 awards in 12 disciplines, with several changes that reflect how artists in the region are actually working.

What's changed

Maskandi stands on its own. Previously folded into Alternative, Outstanding Maskandi Artist / Act is now a category in its own right.

Amapiano joins Kwaito and House. The category becomes Outstanding Kwaito / House / Amapiano Artist / Act, recognising how thoroughly the sound has taken hold.

Outstanding Online Content Creator arrives. A first for the awards, for creators working natively online rather than through traditional media.

Literary work consolidates. The separate fiction, non-fiction and Ndebele categories become a single Outstanding Literary Work.

Outstanding Model replaces the separate male and female model categories.

Lifetime Achievement and People's Choice join the special awards.

Two awards decided off-site

Two categories do not accept public nominations:

• Lifetime Achievement Award — selected by the Bulawayo Arts Awards team and judging panel.
• People's Choice Award — voted for in person on the night of the ceremony.
